     In ‘One Sloppy Night,’ we aimed to craft geometries which would be technically interesting in parts but also invite viewers to imagine their own story when viewed together. Regarding technical components, we manually crafted each of the approximately thirty geometries using Blender. The process of rendering the window, desk lamp, and cotton blanket were particularly demonstrative of our technical work. To create the many components of the window, for example, we first needed to gain a strong understanding of Blender. As for the lamp, although we could demo a straight lamp with ease, our final work demonstrates that we challenged ourselves to learn curvature rendering in order to model a non-rigid structure. The last especially interesting technical piece of ‘One Sloppy Night’ is the cotton blanket, which demonstrates that we learned to realistically fit geometries against one another. For the blanket, we used the Blender physics engine to ruffle a flat plane against the bed. After our technical work, we concentrated on artistic contributions via evocative textures and lighting. With respect to textures, we are especially proud of the ocean background and UV mapping of Heineken textures onto the beer bottles. For lighting, we added three spotlights (one per light fixture and one within the desk lamp) to create an enigmatic and mysterious ambiance within the room.  What happened in the room? Were the beers consumed in joy or as part of an effort to escape a bad night? Did the room’s inhabitant escape for a midnight stroll on the beach? What could be written in the journal by the desk lamp? ‘One Sloppy Night’ begs all of these questions by simultaneously integrating our technical and artistic work. We hope that all viewers enjoy contemplating our work as much as we enjoyed the technical and creative process.
